After a seven-year fight in the New Jersey Legislature, Governor Murphy has made assisted suicide the law in N.J. by approval of S1072/A1504 on April 12. In spite of this heartbreaking result, our parishioners fought a tough fight that apparently made this a close vote. We are now the 8th State to have made doctor assisted suicide legal. Bishop O'Connell has made many public statements on the issue of assisted suicide, which clearly show the Church cannot compromise the sanctity of life. He said that God is the only Creator and source of all human life and that, therefore, God alone has the right to determine its natural end. The Committee would like to thank everyone who contacted their elected officials to encourage them to vote no on this bill. In the future, many state and federal issues will arise that we will again need to address. Our diocesan respect life committee will continue to alert the parishioners of Burlington County pointing out the issues where they can voice their opinion and hopefully swing the legislation in a direction that promotes Catholic moral policy. Thank you for all your past and future support in respecting life.
