Y.E.S. (Youth Energized in the Spirit) Senior High Youth Group
Encourages students to explore their faith through relationships, experiences, and prayer. Y.E.S. focuses on topics important to today’s youth and challenges them to live their everyday lives by Gospel values. The group meets on Sunday evenings, participates in service projects, and hosts social activities throughout the year.
Regular, active participants, 16 years of age or older, are invited to apply for the yearly service mission trip held in June. Those selected travel to Baltimore, Md. for a “Build Week” in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake. /documents/2016/2/2016%20Habitat%20Application.pdf
Y.E.S. Jr. (Youth Energized in the Spirit) Junior High Youth
The youth of the parish (grades five through eight) meet for religious education, spiritual growth, and participation in service, leadership, and school activities. Parish Religious Education Program or PREP
PREP is a program that assists in the faith formation of parish children not enrolled in St. Mary of the Lakes School. Children are immersed in the teachings of the Church, its worship, and prayer life and are empowered to live and proclaim the Good News as they reach out in service to others.
PREP is an eight-year program. Students must attend all eight years if they want to be confirmed in 8th grade (unless there are special circumstances). School children study religion with religious education teachers, with PREP staff making immediate preparations.
The PREP staff meets with parents, supervises the services, prepares and reads specific assignments for 7th and 8th graders and makes arrangements for First Reconciliation and Masses for First Communion/Confirmation. Fees are required for the Sacramental years, as well as for each year of PREP. The staff also conducts retreats for 2nd and 8th graders.
